This module forms part of our 2-day Sustainability Management in Industry training course which explores the understanding of sustainability and sustainable development with a focus towards the energy industry. The course covers sustainability issues, global trends, agreements, frameworks and how these relate to businesses. This then leads into specific topics and related actions which industry can take to become more sustainable. An explanation of the process and techniques that are used to assess environmental and social impacts of upcoming projects. It provides an overview of the key points to look for when considering conducting an environmental impact assessment (EIA) and the steps to complete the assessment.


  • Define an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)
  • Understand the purpose of an Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Learn the legal standing of an Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Describe the process of conducting an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment


The training module includes case studies and exercises to reinforce learning.


Delegates will understand the key issues to consider when conducting EIA and the stages in a typical EIA process, including baseline surveys, Environmental Impact Identification (ENVID), modelling, impact assessment and identifying mitigations and monitoring requirements.
