This module forms part of our 2-day Sustainability Management in Industry training course which explores the understanding of sustainability and sustainable development with a focus towards the energy industry. The course covers sustainability issues, global trends, agreements, frameworks and how these relate to businesses. This then leads into specific topics and related actions which industry can take to become more sustainable. The content of this course is based on the latest developments in the area of sustainability coupled with practical approaches for businesses to take action. The training module includes case studies and exercises to reinforce learning.


An introduction to the global initiatives, frameworks, agreements and standards. An explanation of the sequence of events that lead to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals, the frameworks set to implement sustainability goals and the standards available to measure compliance.


  • Understand and apply global frameworks and standards that relate to sustainable development.
  • Develop an understanding of the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
  • Explain the history of international action on climate change and the Paris agreement.
  • Gain insight on environmental and energy management standards including ISO and ASTM as well as other major global frameworks.


The training module includes case studies and exercises to reinforce learning.


Delegates will have a deeper understanding of their Sustainable Development Goals, who is involved in achieving them, how they are implemented on national and organisational levels, and what standards should be set to ensure achieving them.
