MODULE DESCRIPTION:
An introduction to Asset Integrity Barriers, their function as well as how they are designed, structured, and maintained to prevent, mitigate, or control major accident hazards. This module also explains the tools used to illustrate the function of a barrier in preventing, controlling a major accident and how effective it is in doing so.
MODULE OBJECTIVES:
- Define integrity barriers and explain the requirements and function of each barrier
- Explain the difference between hard and soft barriers
- Illustrate barriers in a Swiss Cheese model and a Bow Tie model
- Barrier threats and mitigation measures
ASSESSMENT:
The training module is followed by an interactive case study to reinforce learning.
MODULE OUTCOME:
Delegates will learn how to define the general requirements of asset integrity barriers and how to assess the effectiveness of their barriers against specific major accident hazard scenarios. They will also be able to read and understand certain barrier models such as the Swiss Cheese model and the Bow Tie model.
